Book Review: Slam Bidding by Hugh Kelsey

Book: Slam bidding
Author: Hugh Kelsey
Year published: 1973
Date finished: Dec. 2, 2017
Genre: Bridge
Rating: 4/10

Review: Slam Bidding by Hugh Kelsey was written 40 years ago.  It is well written and well reasoned, but it is very out-of-date and it is based on ACOL rather than Standard American. It's still somewhat useful, because good bridge advice is eternal, but it will mostly be of historical interest unless you want to play one of the conventions it describes (e.g. Byzantine Blackwood, Culbertson 4-5 NT, Flint cue bids).

About the Author: Hugh Kelsey was a Scottish bridge player and writer.  He wrote many bridge books (mostly on play and defense) and two detective novels. He died in 1995.
